General Overview Service Technician — Distribution role combines responsibilities from Receiving, Packaging, and Shipping departments. This comprehensive position involves the handling of incoming goods, preparation and packaging of parts, and coordination of outbound shipments. Work is carried out in a fast-paced, climate‑controlled industrial environment with substantial forklift traffic. Technicians must operate various equipment types, follow specific quality and customer standards, and maintain accurate documentation. Employees are required to cross‑train across multiple workstations, beginning with observational training on day one.

Key Responsibilities Receiving Duties

Unload incoming trailers using sit‑down forklifts and verify goods for quantity and condition.

Utilize stand‑up forklifts and RF scanners to locate and store larger parts in racking locations.

Use RF scanners and carts for bin locating finished goods into appropriate shelving or bin locations.

Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records and ensure proper storage procedures.

Frequent stepping on and off forklifts during shift.

Packaging Duties

Operate various workstations including Auto Bagger, Hand Bagger, Jones Machine, Hand Pack, Taper Line, and Hoist Line.

Key in production order data into software before initiating packaging.

Feed parts into bags or boxes manually or using automated bowl feeders.

Perform first‑piece inspections to verify accuracy before continuing production.

Follow production orders for packaging type (individual or full tote) and final placement (pallet box or singly on pallet).

Use hoists or lift assists when necessary for ergonomics and safety.

Maintain clean and organized workstations and comply with all safety protocols.

Shipping Duties

Pick items from shelving using Bin Picker, Stand‑Up Picker, or Forklift Picker methods, depending on part size.

Deliver picked goods via conveyors to the sorter area for order consolidation.

Pack pallet boxes at pack‑out stations, ensure labels and documentation are properly applied.

Perform small package packing using banding machines and computer entry for shipment tracking.

Carry and lift 50–60 boxes per hour (some up to 70 pounds), requiring physical stamina.

Customize pallet boxes by cutting them to fit shipment requirements.

Work Schedule 1st Shift: Monday — Friday, 7:00 AM — 3:00 PM 2nd Shift: Monday — Friday, 3:00 PM — 11:00 PM

Break Times

Group A: Break 9:40–9:50 AM | Lunch 12:00–12:20 PM

Group B: Break 9:50–10:00 AM | Lunch 12:20–12:40 PM

Evening shifts follow the same pattern with adjusted times (6:00 PM break and 8:20 PM lunch starts).

Tools & Equipment

Sit‑down and stand‑up forklifts, cherry picker forklifts, hoist apparatus

RF scanner systems, computers/software

Utility knives, staple guns, shipping tape guns

Printers, pallet jacks, step ladders, banding machines

Protective Personal Equipment

Steel toe boots/shoes (mandatory)

Anti‑fatigue mats

Anti‑cut gloves (optional in packaging, required elsewhere)

Eye protection required in designated shipping/UPS areas

Work Environment Climate‑controlled but noisy setting with constant movement and heavy forklift traffic. Tasks require frequent lifting, prolonged standing, and teamwork to maintain production flow. Ergonomic aids such as anti‑fatigue mats and hoist assist tools are used to reduce strain.

Essential Job Requirements

Must maintain good attendance and be available for overtime as required.

Ability to safely and effectively operate in a manufacturing environment.

Capable of reading, writing, and understanding instructions, policies, safety documentation, and job orders.

Proficient in basic math calculations and computer entry tasks.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Problem‑solving ability to reason, analyze, and troubleshoot tasks.

Effective teamwork and collaboration with coworkers.

Consistently meet productivity, safety, and quality standards.

Participate in daily pre‑work stretching programs to prevent injury.

Flexible to rotate between stations and assume other duties as needed.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long durations.

Certification and safe operation of stand‑up, sit‑down, and cherry picker forklifts.

Adherence to all PPE and customer‑specific packaging/shipping requirements.
