Description:
The Lead Sterile Processing Technician aids, promotes and facilitates surgical instruments/equipment across all specialties.
Job Summary The Lead Sterile Processing Technician aids, promotes and facilitates surgical instruments/equipment across all specialties. The Lead Sterile Processing Technician will also be responsible for enhancing a working relationship with physicians, surgical staff and PA’s, promoting a team-focused environment. The Lead Sterile Processing tech ensures adherence to departmental policies and procedures and compliance with regulatory agencies. The Lead Sterile Processing Technician must be knowledgeable of decontamination, instrumentation, sterilization, and the building of case carts. The Lead Sterile Processing Technician is also responsible for the processing of any sterilized product across the hospital.
Performance Duties may include
Assists Manager with facilitating Instrumentation changes / requests
Updates instrument tracking system with new equipment and sets
Coordinates equipment and instrument changes with sterile processing staff
Works in conjunction with OR Schedulers to ensure accurate instrumentation and supplies for upcoming surgical cases
Orders and maintains basic instrumentation.
Ensures adequate inventory of supplies
Learns special instrument needs for new procedures and communicates to SPD staff
Coordinates staff and workflow, adjusting staffing as necessary on assigned shift
Tracks and keeps record of staff orientation for specific procedures/equipment
Gives input to manager for employee performance appraisals.
Assists Manager in assessing staff competency
Responsible for developing monthly employee schedule.
Attends Departmental meetings
Demonstrates awareness of and assures compliance with Hospital and Departmental policies.
Supervises and participates in SPD activities related to compliance with policies, standards and procedures for the decontamination, sterilization, assembly, storage and distribution of medical/surgical supplies and equipment.
Utilizes appropriate interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with, vendors, physicians, Perioperative staff and other hospital departments.
Completion of all mandatory competencies by due date and all employee health requirements by due dates.
Job Qualifications Education
High school diploma
Associates Degree Sterile Processing Technician, preferred
Licensure
Sterile Processing Certification required
Training and Experience
Minimum two years experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
