Job Title: Street Maintenance Worker

Salary: $14.50 up to $15.71 hourly, Based on Experience
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM (subject to evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency overtime)
Job Summary
The City of Charleston is seeking a hardworking and dependable individual to join our Street Department as a Street Maintenance Worker. This position is responsible for performing a variety of manual labor tasks related to the maintenance and repair of city streets, roads, rights-of-ways, and other public areas. Work is performed outdoors year-round and involves tasks such as blacktop, concrete work, storm line installation, and snow/ice removal.
Work Hours This position will be expected to work a schedule established by the Department Head. Typical hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. It is also expected this position will work other hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays as necessary or requested in order to fulfill the City's vision and/or to accomplish departmental goals. Mandatory overtime may be required during certain occasions including, but not limited to times of snow/ice removal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Dig trenches, lay storm lines, shovel asphalt, and rake gravel
Pour and finish blacktop and concrete
Install and maintain guardrails
Assist with traffic control (road closures, flagging)
Support special events through setup and cleanup
Perform storm debris removal and snow/ice operations
Operate hand and power tools in a safe and efficient manner
Follow verbal and written instructions
Complete basic forms and reports
Other duties as assigned by the Department Head or Supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Valid West Virginia Driver's License (must be maintained)
Prior experience in construction, street maintenance, or related field preferred
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Proficiency in reading and speaking English
