Job Summary for Field Service Technician As a Field Service Technician, you’ll be the go‑to expert for on‑site diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of Caterpillar (CAT) Power Generation equipment and related systems. You’ll work independently from a fully equipped Ohio CAT service truck, servicing and performing:

CAT diesel and gas generators (5KW to 3MW)

Switchgear and ATS systems

Control panels and electrical distribution systems

Perform load bank testing, commissioning, and preventive maintenance

Use diagnostic tools (e.g., CAT ET (Electronic Technician), SIS (Service Information System), and other computer‑based diagnostic tools/software) to troubleshoot issues

Provide exceptional customer service and technical support

Ensure compliance with safety protocols and documentation standards

Core Competencies of Field Service Technician

Experience with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, or Detroit Diesel generator systems

Familiarity with switchgear brands like Russelectric, Lakeshore, or Asco

Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills

Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics and control diagrams

Military or field‑based experience in equipment diagnostics and repair is highly valued

Comfortable working independently in outdoor environments

Must own and safely use personal mechanic’s tools

Job Qualifications for Field Service Technician

High School Diploma or GED is required, along with completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power generation systems, plus at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.

Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in repairing diesel engines, generators, and industrial equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The functions of the position require lifting, carrying, and pulling up to 50 pounds. Standing and sitting up, moving up and down stairs, and climbing into machines will be required. Position functions require normal dexterity and repetitive and frequent movements requiring hands, wrists, and fingers. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
