Position Purpose The

Project Estimator

is responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings to ensure we know everything required to successfully bid and win projects. The Estimator estimates and controls production costs by gathering and reviewing the necessary information for each project and works with Sales and Production Teams to compile competitive cost estimates.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.

Quantify project amounts and components.

Understand project/contract sites and restrictions.

Work directly with Project Consultants to gather information to bid projects.

Advocate for safety and follow safety policies and procedures.

Collaborate with the Estimating team and the Sales team to appropriately bid projects.

Collect and review proposals, blueprints, specifications and related documents to prepare and present estimates.

Analyze proposals and requirements.

Analyze past performance data and apply to current bids.

Solicit and maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors.

Identify labor, material and time requirements needed for each project.

Compute costs by analyzing labor, material and time requirements.

Participate in pre‑bid meetings.

Use computer software to prepare estimates and supporting documentation.

Manage personal Company Software estimating queue daily.

Review bid requirements thoroughly.

Catalog all information, notes and meetings in Company Software.

Provide weekly estimating recap to the Estimating Manager.

Serve as front‑line Company representative and provide excellent service to customers and the public.

Follow up with subcontractors to ensure bids are received.

Any and all other duties assigned. Note this description is not comprehensive and may change at any time.

Safety

Position is considered safety‑sensitive and subject to the company’s drug and alcohol policy and all OSHA regulations.

Employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Serves as a safety ambassador by complying with federal, state and local laws and enforcing safe work practices.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Operating at construction sites and office environments, requiring use of standard office equipment, verbal communication, reading printed materials, and carrying items up to 50 pounds.

Will be required to operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, and work outside in all weather, including extreme temperatures.

Potential exposure to chemicals, pollutants, loud noises, and dust/debris.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time position; occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Must be willing to travel to all job sites without exception.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum of two years estimating experience.

Minimum of five years general construction experience.

Must read and understand plans/blueprints.

Excellent math skills.

Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office.

Strong communication and writing skills.

Fluency in English for speaking, reading, and writing.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

Valid driver’s license and clean motor‑vehicle record.

Passing a pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening and background check.
