Your Opportunity Stantec’s Colorado Construction Management Group is seeking a highly motivated Project Manager with strong heavy civil transportation construction experience. This role offers the flexibility to be based anywhere in Colorado.

The primary responsibility of the Project Manager is to monitor and report on the work being executed on site by the construction contractor(s) and their subcontractors to assist our clients in ensuring execution in accordance with the construction contract. The Project Manager oversees a team that typically consists of project controls, construction inspectors, and administration staff. The Project Manager may participate in pre‑construction activities supporting engineering, estimating, logistics, and execution planning related to construction. The Project Manager advises the client on issues or risks observed and provides recommendations on remedial actions for client approval.

At the client’s direction, the Project Manager may also lead portions of the construction execution planning processes including communications management, reporting requirements, change management, project controls, scheduling, quality management, risk management, material management, environmental management, regulatory permitting, and logistics associated with field construction operations. The construction execution planning exercise is coordinated with the client, the construction contractor(s), and other stakeholders. Additionally, the Project Manager will provide pre‑construction development support of execution strategies and assist in constructability reviews.

Work Environment: This position involves office work and long‑term field assignments at a construction site. Office work will be primarily computer‑based with extended sedentary periods. Field work may expose the employee to inclement weather and elements of the construction site.

Your Key Responsibilities

Provide construction management leadership to the project team in support of the client.

Serve as Stantec’s lead employee on a contract providing CM oversight services to a government agency.

Manage a diverse group of employees and subcontractors to execute a contract.

Perform monitoring and reporting functions, making recommendations on proposed remedial actions for client approval.

Provide Health and Safety Leadership for the work, assist with development and implementation of the project‑specific safety plan approved by the client/construction contractor(s). Monitor contractors for compliance against Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental project requirements.

Manage multiple concurrent projects.

Use sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation to solve complex problems.

Collaborate in the project team setting; communicate ideas, design issues, and solutions effectively.

Lead the preparation and coordination of project deliverables and documents, including reports, cost and schedule reporting, specification reviews and recommendations, and production of engineering documents.

Monitor contractors’ work for compliance with schedule, budget, technical specifications, and legal requirements.

Examine field conditions as required to support development and completion of the project.

Review contractor requests for change and, when appropriate, assist in preparing contract change orders or modifications.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Valid driver’s license required.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Primavera skills desirable.

OSHA certification preferred.

Technical expertise in relevant design and construction areas and understanding of various methods.

Thorough knowledge of construction management practices, costs, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and engineering principles.

Highly effective in building and maintaining client relationships.

Understanding of legal design and construction requirements for public works contracts.

Thorough knowledge of code compliance requirements and industry standards.

Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.

Your Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or another related field. Candidates with a non‑technical degree will be considered based on experience.

Professional Engineer (PE) registered in Colorado required, or ability to obtain registration within 6 months.

10+ years of experience in heavy civil transportation construction projects, with 5 years in a leadership role.

Experience with Colorado Department of Transportation and/or local agency projects as Project Engineer or Assistant Project Engineer preferred.

Pay Range

Locations in MN, OH, VT, & various CA, NY areas – $107,100.00 – $160,700.00 annually.

Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & various CA, NJ areas – $117,800.00 – $176,800.00 annually.

Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay‑transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. The final agreed compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec, certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on agreed working hours per week.
