Job Summary:
VVater is seeking a highly skilled Body Fabrication & Finishing Technician to fabricate, assemble, finish, and paint structural and aesthetic components for VVater’s advanced mechanical and water-treatment systems. This role requires a combination of metal fabrication expertise, bodywork craftsmanship, and automotive-grade painting skills, ensuring every VVater product meets the highest standards of structural integrity, durability, and visual presentation.
The ideal candidate is a versatile, hands‑on technician with a background in industrial fabrication, automotive bodywork, precision assembly, and high‑quality paint/finish application. You must be comfortable working from engineering drawings, prototyping with R&D, and delivering flawless mechanical and visual finishes.
Duties and Responsibilities Fabrication & Assembly
Fabricate and assemble metal bodies, housings, frames, enclosures, and custom components for VVater’s mechanical and electrochemical systems.
Perform cutting, bending, forming, shaping, and welding operations (TIG/MIG; stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel).
Fit, align, and assemble subassemblies with precision using engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specs.
Conduct precision measurements using calipers, gauges, micrometers, and templates to ensure dimensional accuracy.
Bodywork & Surface Preparation
Perform full‑Spectrum bodywork, including panel straightening, metal shaping, filler work, sanding, leveling, and surface correction.
Repair dents, weld marks, seams, and imperfections to achieve smooth, uniform surfaces suitable for high‑end finishing.
Conduct finishing operations including grinding, smoothing, polishing, edge radiusing, and texture matching.
Automotive‑Grade Painting & Finishing
Apply primer, base coats, top coats, clear coats, and protective coatings using HVLP or high‑transfer efficiency equipment.
Mix, match, and adjust paint materials to achieve color accuracy and consistent finish quality.
Perform wet sanding, buffing, polishing, and quality checks to produce automotive‑level finishes on metal and composite surfaces.
Maintain a clean, dust‑free paint environment and manage curing/drying processes.
Prototype Support & R&D Collaboration
Support prototype development, iterative testing, and refinement of new VVater technologies.
Collaborate with engineering and CAD teams to validate manufacturability and propose design improvements.
Provide rapid fabrication and finish adjustments during laboratory and field testing cycles.
Shop Operations & Safety
Maintain fabrication, painting, and finishing equipment (welders, brakes, grinders, paint guns, compressors).
Ensure compliance with safety standards related to welding, grinding, painting, ventilation, PPE, and chemical handling.
Maintain organized workspaces, proper consumable inventory, and documented workflow for production consistency.
Other Duties
Assist with crating, assembly, packaging, and field installation when required.
Provide input on fabrication process improvements, tooling requirements, and layout optimization.
Perform all other duties as instructed by the company.
Skills and Qualifications Technical Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience in metal fabrication, bodywork, and/or automotive paint and finishing.
Extensive CNC Experience will be highly beneficial.
Strong welding proficiency in TIG and MIG (stainless steel, aluminum, mild steel).
Proven ability in body filler application, panel straightening, shaping, sanding, and restoration techniques.
Proficiency in HVLP spray systems, multi‑stage paint systems, primers, clear coats, industrial coatings, and curing methods.
Experience working with fabrication equipment, shears, brakes, rollers, sanders, grinders, saws, and CNC equipment.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and CAD‑derived fabrication packets.
Additional Desired Experience
Automotive body shop or custom fabrication background is highly preferred.
Experience with powder coating or industrial coating systems is a plus.
Familiarity with assembly of mechanical/electrical integrated components (industrial or automotive).
Prototyping and low‑volume custom manufacturing experience.
