Red Bull New York (“RBNY”) are one of 30 teams in Major League Soccer (MLS) and one of the league’s ten original charter clubs. Founded in 1996, RBNY has competed in MLS since its inception. RBNY’s First Team plays its home matches at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey and its Second Team plays its home matches at Montclair State University. RBNY are owned by the Austrian beverage company Red Bull GmbH, after which the team is named.
RBNY’s First Team is a three-time MLS Supporters’ Shield winner and a two-time Conference Champion, while the Second Team is the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Champion. The Academy Scout supports day-to-day scouting operations and talent identification for the Red Bulls Academy. This role evaluates and recruits players both within the club’s homegrown territory and in open markets. The position reports to the Academy Lead Scout and collaborates with the Academy Director, Phase Lead, and Head of Pro Player Pathway.
Due to the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, the employee may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the company.
All the responsibilities we’ll trust you with: SCOUTING & TALENT IDENTIFICATION
Identify top talent in collaboration with the Academy Lead Scout.
Scout players inside and outside the club’s Homegrown Territories.
Evaluate prospects across MLS NEXT, ECNL, USL Academy, ODP, high school, and unaffiliated youth clubs.
Assist in developing and executing a year-round scouting strategy.
Recommend players for Academy tryouts and Talent ID sessions.
Help operate Talent ID Centers and maintain a detailed scouting database.
Produce player reports and track progression over time.
Scout players in MLS Open Territories.
Manage regional and network scouts.
Attend Academy training sessions and matches as needed.
Support overall scouting network operations.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
STAFF LEADERSHIP & NETWORK DEVELOPMENT
Help coordinate scouting assignments for tournaments, showcases, and league matches.
Serve as a primary liaison between scouting and coaching staff.
PLAYER RECRUITMENT & INTEGRATION
Support Talent ID Centers and the selection of players for Academy training.
Coordinate trial invitations and onboarding with technical and operations staff.
Ensure prospects align with the club’s playing philosophy and developmental goals.
Assist in transitioning players from grassroots programs to full-time Academy pathways.
COMPLIANCE & REPORTING
Ensure all scouting activities comply with MLS NEXT, USSF, and club policies.
Assist with managing scouting event calendars.
Submit regular reports on scouting activity, player tracking, and recruitment outcomes.
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:
USSF “B” License or equivalent
5+ years of experience in elite soccer
3+ years of scouting experience
Proven success in identifying and recruiting players
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills
Collaborative, team-oriented approach
Ability to positively influence team culture and adapt to change
SafeSport certification (or ability to obtain)
Ability to work non-traditional hours in varied environment
Preferred Qualifications:
USSF “A” License
Completion of U.S. Soccer Talent Scout Course
Professional scouting experience (MLS Academy, MLS First Team, USYNT)
Strong familiarity and network within the NYRB territory
