Private Utility Locator
Terracon is seeking a Private Utility Locator to assist with utility locating services and geophysical field activities.
Job Description For candidates pursuing a career in utility locating and geotechnical services, this blended position involves performing both private utility locating services and assisting with geophysical field activities.
Office Items : Work closely with Geophysical and Geotechnical department staff during the setup and initiation of field exploration services. Duties include reviewing site plans, performing private utility locating services, and relaying relevant information to project staff.
Field Items : Perform non-invasive utility locating and geophysical surveys from the ground surface using various geophysical techniques in support of underground utility location. Define survey objectives, follow survey design parameters, perform Conventional Utility Locating (CUL) methods along with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and effectively communicate field results to project managers. The results are incorporated into the planning of Terracon’s subsurface exploration services. In addition to utility locating services, this position provides the opportunity to perform various field tasks including field reconnaissance, layout test borings, and assist with geophysical and geotechnical field activities as needed.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities
Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Perform utility locating surveys in support of various geotechnical, materials, and environmental projects.
Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection on assignments.
Assist in geophysical data collection and tests to evaluate, plan and permit projects.
Collaborate with project managers and senior level geophysicist on subsurface site conditions for geotechnical and environmental projects.
Assist and perform various field testing services for geophysical and geotechnical subsurface exploration.
May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
Overnight travel is required.
Requirements
High School Diploma with minimum of 2 years of utility locating or GPR experience.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Certification
Certification in field of expertise preferred based on state specific requirements.
Associate/Bachelor degree preferred but not required or 3 years of relevant field experience.
Salary The expected salary range for this position is $30.25 - $42.25 per hour. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
