Senior SME (AWS Infrastructure) Location: Austin, TX

We are searching for a Senior SME to support an AWS GovCloud platform in the Cloud Architecture and Administration team. The candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of supporting the AWS platform and possess advanced skills in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS Code family, GitLab). The successful candidate is self‑motivated, has strong analytical skills, can learn quickly, and can handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Role Responsibilities Candidate must be able to support the following:

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) – Proficiency with Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK for declarative infrastructure management

CI/CD Pipeline Architecture – Designing and maintaining deployment pipelines using CodePipeline and GitLab CI

GitOps Practices – Implementing git‑based workflows for infrastructure and configuration management

Multi‑Account Strategy – Managing AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and account vending processes

Service Control Policies (SCPs) – Implementing guardrails and organizational policies

Cross‑Account Networking – Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, and hub‑spoke architectures

EKS/ECS Management – Building and operating container orchestration platforms with add‑ons, service mesh, and cluster lifecycle management

Container Security – Image scanning, admission controllers, pod security policies/standards

Compliance Automation – AWS Config, Security Hub, GuardDuty integration and automated remediation

Zero Trust Architecture – Implementing identity‑based networking and least privilege access patterns

Encryption & Key Management – KMS, CloudHSM, and encryption-at-rest/in‑transit strategies

Automated Remediation – Leveraging AWS native services to remediate security findings with event‑driven architecture

Centralized Logging/Monitoring – CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Splunk integration and implementation

Cost Optimization – FinOps practices, cost allocation tags, and automated rightsizing

Technical Requirements

At least seven years of experience in the specified technical field, or four years of recent, demonstrated experience with emerging technology and four years of experience in a closely related technical field

Requires eight years of analytical experience

BA/BS or MA/MS in computer science, information systems, mathematics, relevant field, or equivalent experience required

Expert support, analysis and research into exceptionally complex problems, serving as technical expert on executive‑level project teams providing technical direction, interpretation and alternatives

Independent thinking and exceptional written and oral communication skills

Applies advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts

Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts

Works on unusually complex technical problems and provides highly innovative solutions

Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long‑range goals and objectives; assignments often self‑initiated

Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results

Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product

Expertise in a particular area of Information Technology (e.g., Information Systems Architecture, Telecommunications Systems Design, Security Engineering, etc.)
