Purpose Regulatory Forester to procure wood for fuel to generate electricity in compliance with Vermont State Harvesting Policy for Whole-Tree Chipping and Round Wood Operations.
Reports to Plant Manager
Responsibilities
Negotiate and administer wood fuel supplies and associated administrative work.
Inspect and evaluate forest sites to determine harvestable wood volumes and suitability for whole-tree chip harvesting; develop timber harvest plans and silvicultural prescriptions; process notification of harvests to state agencies as necessary.
Ensure that wood fuel procurement activities are conducted within established state permit requirements and sound environmental standards.
Develop new sources of wood fuel as necessary to meet plant needs.
Manage the plant’s forestry-related external public relations activities and maintain contacts within the industry and government agencies.
Review and maintain records pertaining to wood fuel purchases, inventories, and individual suppliers.
Supervise research pertinent to the procurement and storage of wood fuel.
Responsible for data processing activities pertaining to payment for wood deliveries, wood fuel inventory and wood fuel costs.
Supervise and coordinate wood fuel procurement activities of forestry personnel.
Must be accessible by and own a cell phone for conversation and text to respond to the plant or vendor inquiries.
Acts as a team member with all employees on staff at Ryegate Power.
Complies with all safety and environmental rules and procedures.
Additional Functions
Maintain good working relationship with wood producers, wood procurement personnel and state agency personnel.
Monitor and advise management of state regulations pertaining to wood procurement and practices.
Carries out other duties as assigned.
