Job Summary
A time‑limited full‑time Research Scientist (Staff) position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Bong Sook Jhun at the Heart Institute, Hypertension and Kidney Research Center, Department of Molecular Pharmacology & Physiology, Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida (USF) Health. The Jhun Lab studies the roles of mitochondrial fission/fusion and calcium dynamics in healthy and diseased hearts using isolated cardiac mitochondria, primary cells, tissues, and in‑vivo animal models. Minimum Qualifications
Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) OR an equivalent of four years of direct experience in a biological science or related field. Degree Equivalency Clause (SB 1310): Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree Two years of direct experience for an associate degree Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree Related work experience may not substitute for required licensure, certification or registration Minimum qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310 Preferred Qualifications
Experience in molecular or cell biological methods and/or in‑vivo cardiovascular disease models Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Responsibilities
25% Generating rat models of cardiovascular diseases and performing BSL‑1 and BSL‑2 research using these animal models 20% Managing transgenic mouse colony, genotyping, and performing BSL‑1 and BSL‑2 research related to cardiovascular diseases 20% Working with lab staff on research projects involving molecular/cell biology techniques 20% Assisting with product ordering and lab organization, updating lab protocols, and ensuring regulatory inspection compliance 15% Attending weekly laboratory meetings and meeting with Principal Investigators to discuss progress and develop work plans, practicing safe work habits and adherence to university policies and procedures Additional Information
Salary will be determined based on years of experience following USF guidelines. This position may be subject to a Level 1 or Level 2 criminal background check.
