Bilingual Patient Access Representative I – University Clinic
Primary Health Care, Inc (PHC) is looking for a bilingual (Spanish/English) Patient Access Representative I to work at the University Clinic in Des Moines. This role involves providing exceptional customer service at the front desk, completing patient registration, managing revenue cycle processes, and supporting clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and callers, ensuring a positive experience.
Manage the waiting area and maintain a clean reception environment.
Register patients, collect accurate personal and insurance information, and verify coverage using Real Time Eligibility (RTE).
Schedule and confirm appointments, monitor patient schedules, and inform patients of any changes.
Assist patients with sliding fee program and refer to Patient Service Specialists for Medicaid and other coverage.
Collect and process payments, manage cash box, and scan documentation into electronic health records.
Support revenue cycle by performing insurance verification prior to visits.
Collaborate with the Patient Care Team and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare, human services, or social services environment, or 2 years in a customer service role.
Excellent customer‑service skills and commitment to service excellence.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking abilities.
Initiative, dependability, and a team‑oriented mindset.
Basic math skills and computer proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills with diverse individuals.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual Spanish/English communication skills, written and verbal.
Associate degree in a related field.
Experience in a community health center, medical or dental clinic, or related functions.
Experience with patient registration systems and electronic health records.
Experience with a multi‑line telephone system and health‑insurance terminology.
Benefits
Competitive base pay range of $15.50–$23.25 per hour (pay determined by skills/experience).
Shift differential of $5.00 per hour for qualifying shifts.
