Description The Engineering Test/Model Shop Technician will, under limited supervision and general guidelines, set up and monitor a variety of mechanical and electrical testing on commercial cooking equipment and assist in prototype builds. The technician will also be responsible for collecting and summarizing data into reports.
Summary of Job Responsibilities
Interface with engineers to develop and understand testing protocols
Maintain all laboratory equipment and ensure that the lab is stocked with the necessary equipment and supplies
Perform rework, testing and troubleshooting of production units.
Set up and assist testing for third party approval agencies (UL, NSF, ETL)
Work with engineers to ensure the proper procedures and equipment are in place to effectively test the product
Ensure test equipment is calibrated and in good working order
Effectively communicate testing results in a written report format
Build prototype units with direction from an engineer.
Prepares machines for test and evaluation from instructions, sketches, prints, and / or test requests.
Analyzes machine performance, Diagnoses, and repairs anomalies.
Perform assigned housekeeping chores and lab maintenance.
Builds, maintains, and acquires data from life test fixtures.
Maintains safe operation of the test room facilities.
Identifies necessary parts, materials, and supplies and initiates replenishment.
Perform other related tasks as assigned
Maintain all test data and records
Requirements
A two-year degree in a related discipline with greater than two years directly applicable experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Solid mechanical background using hand tools, electrical knowledge a plus
Fundamental understanding of Engineering principles
Self-starter and hands-on approach
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to operate various types of standard and special test equipment, such as temperature data acquisition and multi-meters
Ability to read and understand drawings, schematics and procedures
Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and work with engineering and management to prioritize activities
Desire to learn and gain familiarity with equipment and testing procedures
Basic mechanical fabrication knowledge
Basic electrical knowledge and gas testing experience a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
