Atomic Semi
Fab Full Stack Software Engineer
Atomic Semi, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199
About Atomic Semi
Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab.
It’s already possible to build this with today’s technology and a few simplifications. We’ll build the tools ourselves so we can quickly iterate and improve.
We’re building a small team of exceptional, hands‑on engineers to make this happen. Mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process. We’ll own the stack from atoms to architecture. Our team is optimistic about the future and we want to continue pushing the limits of technology.
Smaller is better. Faster is better. Building it ourselves is better.
We believe our team and lab can build anything. We’ve set up 3D printers, a wide array of microscopes, e‑beam writers, general fabrication equipment — and whatever is missing, we’ll just invent along the way.
Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.
About the Team At Atomic Semi, we’re building a fast, small semiconductor fab from the ground up. The software team is responsible for everything that makes the fab run—writing the code that controls, manages, automates, and orchestrates the hardware that powers chipmaking.
About the Role You’ll work across the stack to build the systems that power the fab, owning features end to end from API design to polished UI. You’ll turn complex hardware workflows into intuitive software, build reliable services, and craft responsive, performant interfaces. You’ll collaborate closely with process engineers, designers, and embedded teams to ship tools that make chipmaking fast, automated, and visible in real time.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain our core web application that runs the fab
Collaborate with process and automation engineers to make chips with robots
Contribute to and integrate with firmware and embedded systems
Build and extend backend services and infrastructure that keep the fab running
Required Experience
Full stack development experience with fluency across modern web frameworks and cloud infrastructure
Ability to build and ship both frontend and backend systems, including hardening prototypes into production‑ready products
Strong skills in rapid prototyping and iteration, with a balance of speed, quality, and craftsmanship
Nice-to-have
Previous experience as founder or early engineer at a startup or in a zero‑to‑one role
Published projects, open source contributions, or side projects that demonstrate technical creativity
Experience building software that interfaces directly with hardware systems
