Job Overview
As the Lead, Product Sustainability, you will develop an overarching strategy for product sustainability at Takeda.
Your strategy will enable the company to communicate product-level environmental performance, support customer tenders, and align with Takeda’s Planet and brand objectives.
You will partner cross-functionally with various teams to design, substantiate, approve, and govern sustainability-related product claims and narratives.
You will ensure all disclosures are compliant, non-misleading, and aligned with tender/customer documentation requirements.
You will establish a global Sustainability Product Claims governance framework and maintain it, along with the underlying data, methodologies, evidence, and traceable documentation.
These materials will be defensible and audit/inspection ready, enabling scalable execution across Takeda’s portfolio and geographies.
You will report into the Global Head of Environment and Sustainability. Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of Takeda’s product sustainability narrative strategies for priority brands and pipeline assets, ensuring alignment with enterprise sustainability goals, brand strategies, and customer tender requirements. Collaborate closely with Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Compliance, and Pharmacovigilance to define guardrails for sustainability related claims, ensure appropriate evidence standards, and oversee review and approval processes. Work with Environmental Sustainability Operations and DD&T to define data requirements, methodologies, and metrics needed to substantiate claims, maintaining documentation that is traceable, defensible, and inspection/audit ready. Design, implement, and mature the Sustainability Product Claims governance framework, including roles, decision rights, operating procedures, documentation standards, and escalation pathways. Develop clear, credible, and differentiated product sustainability narratives and claims, translating complex technical assessments such as life cycle assessment outputs and emissions data into compelling content for diverse stakeholders. Partner with Commercial, Marketing, Market Access, and Medical Affairs to integrate sustainability narratives into brand plans, promotional and non‑promotional materials, and patient and HCP education tools in compliance with regulatory and promotional standards. Co‑lead or participate in governance forums and project teams focused on product‑level sustainability, ensuring application of policy. Monitor external regulatory, policy, and stakeholder trends related to environmental and sustainability claims; recommend updates to internal policies, templates, and training accordingly. Develop and deliver training, playbooks, and tools to build capability in sustainability narrative development across global and regional teams. Engage with external partners such as industry associations, NGOs, and specialist consultancies to benchmark Takeda’s approach, align with best practices, and strengthen credibility of methods and claims. Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required in a scientific discipline. 8+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, consumer goods, or a related regulated industry. Experience in sustainability, ESG, brand/portfolio marketing, medical affairs, regulatory affairs, or communications. Demonstrated track record developing or governing product‑related claims, narratives, or communications in consultation with Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance partners. Program and project management capabilities. Experience working in a matrixed, global organization. Location and Compensation

This position is classified as "hybrid" in accordance with Takeda’s Hybrid and Remote Work policy.
U.S. base salary range: $153,600.00 – $241,340.00 per year, with potential short‑term and long‑term incentives, medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) plan with company match, disability coverage, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, well‑being benefits, sick leave, and paid vacation.
