Job Summary The Medical Assistant – Photo Laser Therapy provides high‑quality patient care while assisting with medical excimer laser and narrowband UVB (nbUVB) phototherapy treatments for dermatology patients. This role works closely with providers and clinical staff to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate delivery of laser and phototherapy services. In addition to clinical responsibilities, this position supports the Surgery Scheduling department between patient appointments by assisting with scheduling, patient communication, and coordination of care. This includes helping guide patients through the surgical scheduling process, ensuring accurate documentation, and providing clear follow‑up and education to support a seamless patient experience. This role combines hands‑on clinical care with administrative support, contributing to both patient satisfaction and operational efficiency within the practice.

Responsibilities

Treat patients with excimer laser and nbUVB phototherapy while making educated and accurate dosing decisions.

Keep the workspace(s) clean and orderly, restock the rooms as needed, and ensure each room is sterilized for each patient.

Complete all notes accurately and in a timely manner, correcting them as requested by supervisors and physicians.

Work with insurance to perform verification of benefits and/or prior authorizations on behalf of patients prior to starting treatments.

Maintain excellent charting skills, including all patient communication and progress notes.

Keep open communication with other employees in the department, especially regarding patient care.

Educate patients about the process and the science regarding excimer laser and phototherapy.

Complete all open/close duties as required.

Manage patient treatment schedules as they change and work with scheduling staff to ensure proper bookings.

Remain flexible with schedule changes and fill in as needed.

Operating the phones for our surgical scheduling extension, assisting any patients.

Reschedule surgical appointments, discuss biopsy results, discuss pre‑op or post‑op concerns, forward the call onto the correct party, or any other concern that the patient has.

Coordinate with the Surgical Operations Manager to ensure all concerns are addressed.

Consistently check intramails and voicemails from patients throughout the day to ensure that all patients have their concerns addressed before the end of the day.

Collaborate with Clinical Operations teams to ensure that all patient surgeries are being scheduled accurately to meet all insurance and medical processes guidelines. Acts as main point of contact if any issues with insurance or scheduling.

Responsible for writing certify letters and follow the best practice accurately and timely.

Communicate benign pathology results to patients.

Requirements Required Skills/Abilities

Proficient in typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication.

Ability to manage multiple priorities.

Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.

Knowledge and strong understanding of insurance guidelines.

Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.

Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.

Detail oriented.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Strong computer skills.

Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education And Experience

Associate's or Bachelor's degree required

CNA or CMA certification preferred.

1‑2 years of healthcare experience preferred.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a clinic setting.

All to travel to all of our locations occasionally.
