We are seeking a Principal Air Quality Engineer/Scientist (Environmental Permitting and Compliance) to join our team in Northern California. This full-time position (40 hours/week) is based in the Bay Area, with current offices in Berkeley and San Francisco, and potential for a new office based on the candidate's location. Position Summary:

The Principal Air Quality Engineer/Scientist (Environmental Permitting and Compliance) will lead and execute compliance and permitting functions related to air quality regulations. Responsibilities include reviewing processes and equipment, analyzing permit-related issues, and communicating findings within Yorke, to clients, government agencies, and the public. The role demands effective communication, decision-making, and time management. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

This is a senior-level position involving complex and sensitive air quality consulting tasks. The employee will also be involved in business development, proposal writing, mentoring, and overseeing work quality.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • 15-25+ years in air quality and/or environmental engineering, preferably in consulting;
  • Experience in leading air quality services such as process review, permitting (BAAQMD, SCAQMD, SJVAPCD, Title V), emissions reporting, dispersion modeling, and air quality assessments;
  • Proven ability to manage project teams, ensure quality, and meet deadlines;
  • Strong client, staff, and regulator relationship management skills;
  • Experience working with agencies like SCAQMD, BAAQMD, SJVAPCD, EPA, CARB;
  • On-site client experience;
  • Ability to prepare reports and interpret technical data;
  • Motivated to grow in the air quality field;
  • California regulatory and compliance experience is essential.

Job Requirements:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant field from an accredited institution;
  • Ability to collaborate, prioritize, and handle multiple projects efficiently;
  • Willingness to train and share expertise on environmental regulations;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Experience in conflict resolution and crisis management;
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting rules and data;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with SharePoint skills a plus;
  • P.E. certification is advantageous.
