The Norwescap Food Bank, located in Phillipsburg, NJ, serves Hunterdon, Warren, and Sussex Counties. Food insecurity remains a critical issue in our region, and our team works tirelessly to ensure nutritious food reaches individuals and families who need it most.
Job Summary We are seeking a Truck Driver to play a key role in transporting and distributing food throughout our service area. You will pick up food donations from retail stores, food distributors, and local farm partners, and deliver to agency partners such as food pantries, shelters, schools in the Backpack Program, and other community programs. When not driving, you will support warehouse operations by receiving, storing, organizing, and distributing food products.
Key Responsibilities Driving & Transportation
Safely operate Food Bank trucks to transport food to scheduled locations across Hunterdon, Warren, and Sussex Counties.
Load, unload, and organize freight throughout the day, including lifting 50+ pounds regularly.
Secure all products for safe transport and maintain compliance with food handling and safety procedures.
Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness.
Maintain accurate vehicle, mileage, and route logs, as well as all DOT and regulatory documentation.
Represent the Food Bank in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Develop strong relationships with donors and agency partners to support community impact.
Warehouse Operations
Receive, move, load, unload, and store inbound and outbound food products in designated areas according to safety procedures.
Assist with staging, picking, and preparing orders for deliveries and agency partner pick‑ups.
Consolidate product and organize warehouse space to maintain efficiency and accessibility.
Complete accurate inventory and shipping documentation with attention to detail.
Engage agency partners in a positive, professional, and efficient manner during pick‑up and delivery operations.
Maintain overall warehouse cleanliness, safety, and organization, collaborating with other staff as needed.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Valid CDL‑B (or higher) and current DOT medical record required.
Minimum one year of professional CMV driving experience.
Forklift experience and certification preferred (certification must be obtained within three months of employment).
Food handler certification preferred (certification must be obtained within three months of employment).
Strong organizational, communication, and time‑management skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Commitment to community service and the mission of Norwescap.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
Ability to bend, squat, stoop, kneel and reach above your shoulders.
Ability to work in a warehouse environment in extreme temperatures.
