Job Summary The primary function of the Shop Technician is to inspect, diagnose and repair customers’ lift trucks and various material handling equipment. Conduct overall inspection to verify the truck is up to safety standards and perform maintenance, repair, replacement and troubleshooting as well as other duties required per management.
Essential Functions
Read and understand electrical and hydraulic system schematics
Inspect the forklift and/or issues that were reported
Repair or replace major system components, including circuit boards and other electrical parts, hydraulic, mechanical, L.P. systems, power steering, transmissions and engines with limited supervision.
Perform engine tune‑ups on equipment without supervision
Perform proper PM’s in a timely manner
Troubleshoot and diagnose most complex electrical systems on IC and electric trucks
Be able to use all special tools properly.
Follow all safety procedures in performing work as well as company policies
Verify the equipment is up to safety standards
Properly identify and order all necessary replacement parts
Use overhead crane when needed, following safety guidelines
Perform other duties as required per management
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 2 years’ experience working on material handling equipment or heavy industrial equipment
Auto, truck or military repairs experience will be considered
Tech school graduate preferred
Must have mechanic tools
Physical Demands And Working Conditions Physical demands: Sitting, standing, and walking (up to continuously); frequent use of computer and telephone requiring repetitive finger, hand, and arm movement; occasionally carry office supplies and other miscellaneous items up to 50 pounds. Continuous use of seeing, hearing, verbal communication. Working conditions: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to temperatures commensurate with outdoor seasonal temperatures.
