County of Riverside . The County of Riverside's Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) seeks a Support Services Technician for their Administrative Services Division—Facilities Unit located in Riverside.
About The Position Candidates must be able to participate in an on‑call rotation and work occasional overtime, which may include weekends and holidays. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required, as this role involves traveling throughout Riverside County to perform maintenance and repair work on county buildings.
The Support Services Technician will perform routine repairs and maintenance for assigned buildings, maintain repair records, conduct security inspections, and assist with minor maintenance projects. Responsibilities include office furniture moves and assembly; equipment maintenance and repair; minor mechanical repairs such as service of doors, locks, and gates; scheduled quarterly maintenance and safety inspections; cleaning vents and air ducts; handling minor repairs that require basic trades knowledge; and preparing, entering, and completing repair work orders. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on business needs.
This position may require physically demanding tasks, including standing, bending, and lifting objects up to
50 pounds
unassisted, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The most competitive candidates will have at least four years of experience in building maintenance and repairs, intermediate proficiency with Microsoft programs such as Outlook and SharePoint, experience with minor electrical and HVAC work, and familiarity with modular furniture.
Essential Duties
Monitor county buildings and equipment and identify needed repairs or maintenance.
Perform routine cleaning of vents and air ducts.
Perform minor mechanical repairs and prepare work orders for repairs as necessary.
Service and repair doors, gate locks, and latches.
Move and secure furniture and equipment.
Determine supplies needs and prepare orders.
Perform minor painting tasks using brush or roller.
Perform minor electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs, replacing wall receptacles, and adjusting custodial equipment.
Hang pictures, bulletin boards, placards, signs, etc. as necessary.
Receive, load, and unload supplies, materials, and equipment from vendor trucks; operate forklift to move pallets; inspect for damage and quantity received against requisitions, invoices, or freight bills.
Handle courier routes, inventory supplies to par level, and deliver/receive mail, financial paperwork, lab samples, and biohazard mail.
Store stock in accordance with established system and keep storeroom orderly and clean.
Assemble equipment such as desks, chairs, bookcases, etc.
Provide maintenance and support to the department pager system.
Prepare and maintain records for telephone and paging operations.
Oversee installations, testing, and authorized routine repair of radio transmitters, receivers, and pagers.
Monitor cell phone bills and make recommendations for service changes as necessary.
Maintain logs and database of supply inventory, equipment, vehicle mileage/maintenance, cellular phones/pagers, and purchase orders.
Ensure vehicles are cleaned, maintained, and properly supplied; perform minor vehicle maintenance as required.
Coordinate with the Safety Division to ensure compliance with county and state regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
Three to four years of experience in building maintenance and minor repair work.
Basic techniques of receiving, storing, and issuing supplies and materials; basic inventory control.
Ability to perform semi‑skilled minor maintenance in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, building plant operations, and minor vehicle maintenance.
Reading, interpreting, and working from plans, drawings, and specifications.
English reading and writing proficiency at the level necessary for successful job performance.
Other Requirements Possession of a valid driver’s license.
