Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Duration: 3 Months

Location: USA - NY - Albany - 1375 Washington Avenue

Training could be at a different location.

Shift: Mon-Fri 9 AM-5.30PM every other Sat 7-11 AM EST

Vaccines required:

  • Vaccines required: Tb, Hep B, candidate can decline Hep b series. Color vision required
  • Hard sticks and needles
  • Pediatrics, Geriatric experience needed

Summary

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
  • Demonstrates technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
  • Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
  • Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% correctness.
  • Packages specimens for transport.
  • Stores specimen samples according to the required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
  • Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attends annual department trainings.
  • Answers telephone calls, reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years of experience.
