Summary We are looking to add a part time on call Plumbing Inspector to our team! The Plumbing Inspector performs a variety of routine and complex building inspection work to ensure compliance with current building codes and ordinances. Works under the general supervision of the Building and Code Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conducts field inspections during the progress of building construction or repair to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and codes, and makes decisions on the job site to correct any deviations. Reviews permit applications for plumbing, sewer, and gas line work to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and codes. Conducts periodic inspections of residential, commercial and industrial occupancies to ensure that plumbing installations conform to the pertinent State and City codes. Conducts inspections and reports on plumbing complaints; maintains contact with contractors and health officials to foster awareness of plumbing related problems. Meets with contractors, homeowners, builders, business people and architects and recommends plan revisions in order to correct problems resulting from code violations, code interpretations or an ambiguity in the approved plans. Coordinates or assists in administration of local Illinois EPA cross-connection control program, sewer lateral rebate program, and flood control rebate program as directed. Performs related duties as required.

Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent required. College and/or business coursework is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in general construction and inspection of plumbing systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Thorough knowledge of State of Illinois Plumbing and related codes is required. A thorough knowledge of plumbing systems and some knowledge of electrical, carpentry, concrete work or mechanical systems is required. The ability to effectively inspect plumbing systems and read and understand complicated plumbing plans and blueprints is required. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to prepare, organize and communicate field data to reports are required. Computer proficiency and demonstrated knowledge of computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases is required. Must have a working knowledge of general office equipment and other tools, such as various hand tools and equipment used for water tests utilized during field inspections. The ability to set priorities, meet critical time deadlines, follow written and oral instructions, and handle business activities with discretion and integrity is required. The ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, contractors, architects, engineers, owners and the general public is required. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and evenings as needed is required. Must possess an IL State Plumbing License. Certification as an Illinois EPA Cross-Connection Control Inspector, other certifications including Mechanical Inspector, Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, etc. are a plus. The employee must be capable of driving/operating a motor vehicle for company business, and maintain a valid driver’s license in the state of residence

Compensation Range $35.50/hr - $55.75/hr The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Illinois Salary Transparency amendment to the Equal Pay Act of 2003. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, skills, prior work experience, competencies, and geographic work location. The total annual compensation package may consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate, after a qualifying period, in our performance and discretionary incentive bonus program(s).
