Additional Information About the Role Integrated Spine is a newly integrated inpatient spine unit that consolidates neurologic and orthopedic spine patients into one location. This allows for high-quality, standardized care for all patients regardless of surgeon specialty. This unit is the newest addition to the surgical services team and provides an opportunity for nurses to help build this unique unit. Nurses on this unit will become adept in both the neurologic and orthopedic realms of nursing as they will care for patients who undergo a wide variety of surgical procedures. We specialize in treatment of degenerative spine conditions, traumatic spinal injuries, complex spinal reconstructive surgeries, spinal tumors, and spinal revision surgeries. BSN or ADN candidates welcome. Responsibilities * Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration. * Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development. * Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care. * Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs. * BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
