Tax Senior Manager, ASC740 – BDO USA

Job Description The Core Tax Services ("CTS") Senior Manager – ASC740 is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 tax issues. In this role, the core manager is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognize and communicate potential risks and changes in tax policy. The manager also engages in marketing, networking, business development within an area of expertise and may provide written tax advice to clients.
Job Duties
Tax Compliance
Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens and ensure compliance with firm policies.
Conduct top‑level review of tax returns and resolve all tax issues, involving specialists when needed.
Communicate with client and assurance about issues identified in tax accrual reviews.
Plan and review the tax process and procedures including budgeting and staffing, monitoring engagement process, billing, and collections.
Manage client relationships and expectations per project.
Provide timely advice to clients.
Research
Identify when research is needed, frame issues, and report analysis.
Provide research methodology and train managers/staff on research skills.
Involve firm specialists as appropriate.
ASC 740 (FAS 109 / FIN 48) Tax Accruals
Apply firm policies and ASC 740 proactively.
Explain income tax provision components and uncertain tax positions to clients.
Communicate with assurance to plan accrual reviews.
Review tax provisions, workpapers, and manage Specialized Tax Services.
Tax Consulting
Develop and recommend efficient methods to maximize client benefits and reduce taxes.
Apply CTS and STS consulting specialties where applicable.
Serve as a technical resource and ensure compliance with firm policy regarding written tax advice.
Provide assistance with exam support and delegate to seniors and associates.
Tax Specialization
Develop in‑depth knowledge of one or more areas of taxation.
Organize and conduct CPE training and mentor staff on ASC 740.
Strategy Development
Generate ideas to improve client, firm, or personnel positions.
Suggest improvements to work products or approaches.
Lead marketing campaigns if applicable and present complex strategies to clients.
Collaborate with National Tax and Specialized Tax Services to deliver high‑quality analyses.
Other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise associates and senior associates on all projects.
Review work prepared by associates and senior associates and provide feedback.
Teach associates and seniors to use current software tools.
Act as career advisor to associates and senior associates.
Schedule and manage workload of associates and senior associates.
Deliver verbal and written performance feedback.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation (required).
Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred).
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation.
Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred).
Experience
Eight (8) or more years of prior experience (required).
Experience managing ASC 740 computations for privately held and publicly traded clients (required).
Prior supervisory experience (required).
Multinational client experience (preferred).
License/Certifications
CPA, Attorney (U.S. jurisdiction admitted), or IRS Enrolled Agent (or equivalent)
Software
Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook); Adobe Acrobat (preferred).
Tax research databases (BNA, RIA); tax compliance software (GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation, etc.) (preferred).

New Jersey: $155,000 - $200,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $190,000 - $225,000
