Job Summary Administer ionizing radiation to the patient (inclusive of adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations) in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist and under the general supervision of the Chief Therapist. Works closely with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver precise treatments and provide patient-centered care. Physical Requirements The ability to perform the duties and responsibility of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations for disabilities. The ability to consistently lift, push or pull loads of up to fifty (50) pounds. (Unless nursing 50) Sufficient strength, mobility and stamina to make frequent location and position changes, assist with patient care, and perform other physical activities of average difficulty. Visual and Hearing Requirements Must be able to see with corrective eye wear. Must be able to hear clearly with assistance. Working Conditions Primarily Works in a well-lighted and air-conditioned environment with period of heavy workload and stress. This role may include working in less-than-ideal home conditions, which can include exposure to extreme temperatures and environments that may not meet typical cleanliness standards such as clutter, unkept surfaces, and homes with pets. Responsibilities Supervises the Following Positions Positions: N/A Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions Deliver proficiently and accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision during the allotted treatment appointment time. Check prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identification. Explain procedure to patient, means of communication during treatment and procedure to follow if emergency arises during treatment. Reinforce Radiation Oncologist's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and his/her care. Prepare room and equipment for patient according to prescription regarding immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, etc. Conduct pre-treatment and weekly chart checks to ensure the accuracy of the patient's treatment chart. Prepare the electronic chart by confirming that all necessary information has been accurately transferred to the linear accelerators. Transfer patient safely to treatment couch or CT couch, giving special care to catheters, intravenous drips, oxygen tubing, etc. Maintain proper documentation of patient photos for identification and treatment set-up. Check electronic treatment chart daily for accuracy with Record and Verify System and deliver the correct prescribed dose. Maintain visual and audible communication with the patient during treatment and CT Simulation Maintain patient markings. Observe patient for unusual reactions and events and report accurate information to the nursing staff and/or Radiation Oncologist. Observe radiation safety measures for patient and personnel. Perform Image Guided Radiation Therapy and Surface Guided Radiation Therapy as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. Observe safety measures regarding the On-Board Imager and Portal Imager to prevent collisions. Report any collisions immediately to Chief Therapist and Physicist. Perform portal imaging as prescribed for review by Radiation Oncologist. Schedule patients' treatments correctly. Perform and document daily accelerator and QA procedures. Perform daily IGRT and SGRT quality assurance procedures as required. Maintain electronic records of daily treatment and other records as required by department quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Accurately complete activity capture and review charges daily. Secure and maintain supplies in treatment rooms. Report erratic operation of equipment to Chief Therapist, Radiation Physicist and/or Medical Director. Participate in departmental performance improvement activities and in continuing education or training to stay current with advancements in radiation therapy techniques and technology Attend monthly staff meetings, monthly QA chart rounds, and educational in-services. Incorporate department and hospital policies and procedures into care provided. Wear radiation film badge while on duty. Protect patients and their confidentiality. Aware that as patient care dictates, both the assigned shift and workstation may be changed by the department. Performs other duties as the department may from time to time deem necessary. Able to remain calm and professional during stressful situations. Be effective in creating a pleasant environment for staff, patients, and visitors. Contribute to a positive team environment and assist in training new staff or students as required. Perform and document daily CT Simulation warmup and quality assurance procedures. Perform proficiently and accurately CT Simulations as directed by the Radiation Oncologist. Explain CT Simulation procedure to patient, answer questions and document all patient positioning and immobilization devices, in order to create a reproducible setup for daily treatments. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Required High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent Associate's degree in Radiation Therapy, Biology, or science technologies Completion of a Radiation Therapy program approved by ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)

Preferred Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy, Biology, or science technologies

Experience: Preferred Two years of experience in Radiation Oncology or related

Certification/Licensure: Required Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must obtain within ninety (90) days of start date

Medical Radiologic Technology (MRT) License from the State of Texas The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) Certification in Radiation Therapy
