Senior Data Scientist – Energy Trading & Analytics
Overview
Our client is a leading energy company seeking an experienced IT Software Developer Analyst with deep expertise in Data Science, Analytics, and Machine Learning for Power Commodity Trading. This is an exciting 12‑month contract opportunity based in Juno Beach, FL, offering competitive compensation of up to $43/hour for professionals with 6‑10 years of experience.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and deploy production‑grade machine learning and analytics systems for power commodity trading operations
Build sophisticated forecasting models for price, load, and renewable generation using time series analysis and advanced ML techniques
Implement agentic AI frameworks and autonomous decision systems for trading support
Create intelligent trading assistants using LLMs and RAG pipelines for market insights and report automation
Design and maintain data infrastructure including ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouses
Develop optimization and scenario modeling solutions for trading positions and risk management
Build comprehensive dashboards and visualization tools for market analysis
Integrate weather data, grid conditions, and market signals into predictive systems
Education & Experience
Master's or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics
5+ years of experience in machine learning or advanced analytics
At least 2 years of experience in energy, power, or commodities markets
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow) and SQL
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for ML deployment
Strong foundation in statistics, linear algebra, and optimization
Experience with LLMs (GPT, Llama, Mistral) and RAG pipelines
Proficiency in agentic AI frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI)
Data engineering skills with tools like dbt, Airflow, Prefect
Experience with data warehouses (Databricks, Snowflake)
Domain Knowledge
Understanding of power market dynamics and ISO/RTO markets (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, CAISO)
Familiarity with trading instruments: DA/RT markets, FTRs, CRRs, PPAs, futures, swaps
Knowledge of natural gas, renewables, and carbon markets
Experience with regulatory and compliance data (FERC, EIA, ISO market data)
