Role Overview In this non‑supervisory Director‑level position, you will assume a highly visible and large‑impact role and responsibility to lead discussion and engage in strategic negotiations on high‑value rebate contracts for CVS Caremark’s Medicare business segment. This includes management of the business relationship with pharmaceutical manufacturers and contracting for discounts on branded pharmaceutical products. You will engage with cross‑functional teams across the organization and partner on high‑profile negotiation strategies.
Key Responsibilities • Lead discussions and negotiations for rebates for branded pharmaceuticals where CVS Caremark is the PBM, providing input and recommendations for formulary strategies and positioning, and negotiating contracts that support those strategies.
• Utilize creativity and skilled collaboration across multiple key business units. Balance multiple priorities, such as dealing with multiple, complex contract negotiations and multiple manufacturers.
• Coordinate with other key leaders responsible for pharmacy benefit strategies to create synergies and value.
• Work with multiple internal teams (Trade Negotiators, Medical Affairs, Product) and external partners (manufacturers) to establish relationships and articulate potential management strategies based on utilization and cost patterns.
• Assist Trade leadership in meeting financial goals, including rebate generation.
• Directly work with pharmaceutical manufacturers and provide relationship management on rebate issues for assigned segments.
• Accountable for rebate contracting with assigned manufacturers.
Additional Account Management Duties
You will work closely with the Executive Director, Associate Vice President, and Vice President of Trade Relations in the negotiation strategies with market access functions of branded pharmaceutical manufacturers.
You will positively develop and foster strong relationships with direct manufacturers and industry partners.
You will coordinate with other key leaders that have responsibility for pharmacy benefit strategies to create synergies and value.
You will have an opportunity to directly work with pharmaceutical manufacturers and provide relationship management on rebate issues for your assigned segments.
You will be accountable for rebate contracting with assigned manufacturers.
Location & Travel Ideally, this is a hybrid position located out of our corporate offices in either Northbrook, IL or Downers Grove, IL, with a couple of days per week working remotely. Remote/work from home would be considered based on experience. Ability up to 10–20% travel as necessary, per business needs.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of work experience.
7+ years of experience in managed care which may include PBM, Pharma, market access, account management, specialty pharmacy, or health plan.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA, PharmD.
5+ years of experience negotiating contracts in the healthcare or PBM space.
Strong knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical rebates, purchasing, and prescription benefit designs.
Familiarity with pharmaceutical pricing and reporting of pharmaceutical products.
Education Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent work experience will be considered.
Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $100,000.00 – $231,540.00. This range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full‑time salary. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short‑term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above, and includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
