The manager is responsible for technical decisions during software development. Objective: efficiently utilize senior development staff based on corporate priorities, risk, and return on investment.

The manager works with other organizations within OCLC to implement infrastructure (middle-level) software components that are shared between products and organizations. Included in this responsibility are project planning including scheduling and budgeting. Objective: Identify and provide common shared software components which lower overall development expense and provide better-integrated shared services to internal users (OCLC developers) and our members.**Major Responsibilities:*** · Own the full lifecycle of OCLC’s cataloging applications—leading the design, development, modernization, and operational excellence of scalable, cloud-enabled solutions used globally by libraries and metadata professionals* · Partner closely with Product Management to align engineering execution with customer roadmap priorities, feature timelines, and long-term vision—balancing feature delivery, modernization, and technical debt reduction* · Guide the successful and timely delivery of product releases, managing cross-team dependencies, risk, and stakeholder expectations across multiple domains* · Champion modern engineering practices, including test-driven development, CI/CD pipelines, observability, API-first design, and secure coding standards* Lead the adoption of AI tools and practices—coaching teams on responsible use of various AI tools, AI-assisted QA, intelligent documentation, and data stewardship* Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and psychologically safe team culture, where continuous learning, experimentation, and innovation are embedded in daily work* Mentor and grow engineering talent, building T-shaped skillsets through pairing, workshops, design reviews, and leadership coaching.* Ensure technical excellence through rigorous code reviews, architectural discussions, and continuous improvement in team quality and velocity* Identify and manage technical debt, advocating for system refactoring, modernization, and performance enhancements as part of long-term strategy* Contribute to OCLC’s broader transformation initiatives, influencing the engineering culture, technical strategy, and modernization of legacy systems to meet future demands

Minimum Qualifications* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field* 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including large-scale distributed systems, full-stack or backend development.* 5+ years of technical leadership experience, including leading agile teams and cross-functional initiatives* Proven experience architecting and delivering microservices in containerized, cloud-native environments* Strong fluency in DevOps automation, CI/CD pipelines, and GitOps workflows* Proficiency in at least one language like Java, Python, or C#* Background in accessibility and internationalization of enterprise applications* Demonstrated experience in integrating AI/ML models into production systems* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence at all levels and people leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications* Master’s degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline

· Familiarity with AI technologies (e.g., LLMs, generative AI, NLP) and their practical integration in software workflows.* Agile certifications or track record leading agile transformation initiatives* Experience leading modernization and re-platforming efforts (e.g., monolith to microservices)* Knowledge of UI/UX principles and experience with frameworks like React or Angular
