Job Title: Pharmacy Technician - Front-End / Specialty Pharmacy Job Summary The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacist in delivering safe, accurate, and compliant pharmacy services to patients in accordance with Perform Specialty Pharmacy policies, state professional standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists in all aspects of the dispensing process, including prescription entry, preparation, claims processing, labeling, packaging, and coordination of medication delivery. This role requires strong attention to detail, customer service skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced specialty pharmacy environment.
Key Responsibilities Front-End Pharmacy Operations Accurately enter prescription, refill, supply, and equipment information into the pharmacy computer system to generate required documentation. Process new and refill prescriptions while maintaining established productivity and quality standards. Contact prescribers to obtain new prescriptions, refill authorizations, and clarifications as needed. Receive and respond to inbound calls from prescribers and patients, resolving requests and inquiries professionally. Forward completed and typed prescriptions to the pharmacist for verification and/or clarification. Adjudicate pharmacy claims and resolve basic claim issues. Select appropriate supplies and ancillary items based on medication requirements, patient needs, and preferences. Deliver excellent customer service to patients, caregivers, and internal and external stakeholders.
Dispensing, Packing, and Shipping Support Accurately fill patient orders by selecting and retrieving appropriate medications and supplies. Verify medication quantities and prepare prescription labels in compliance with pharmacy standards. Ensure all client-specific materials are included with each order. Assist with shipping preparation by selecting appropriate packing materials, packing medications correctly, and generating shipping labels. Coordinate delivery scheduling by contacting patients, caregivers, and/or prescribers.
Operational & Administrative Duties Clean dispensing area equipment and replenish workstation supplies prior to the end of shift or as scheduled. Maintain organized, clean, and compliant work areas. Perform additional duties related to the practice of pharmacy that do not require professional pharmacist judgment.
Work Environment & Requirements Works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Adheres to state pharmacy regulations, company policies, and safety standards. Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and maintain accuracy in a high-volume setting.
