Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant (2+ years experience required)

*Job Summary*
The Ophthalmic Technician plays a key clinical role in the eye care team, assisting the ophthalmologist in patient care, diagnostic testing, and day‑to‑day clinical operations. This person performs pre‑examination testing, documents patient histories, handles ophthalmic equipment, and assists with patient education.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Greet patients, verify demographics and insurance, and update medical/ocular histories
* Conduct preliminary testing:
* Visual acuity (distance, near, pinhole)
* Tonometry
* Pupillary assessments, extraocular motility, cover tests
* Lensometry, autorefraction, retinoscopy
* Keratometry, pachymetry, optical biometry, OCT imaging
* Visual field testing, fundus photography, topography
* Administer eye drops (dilation, anesthetics) as ordered by physician
* Assist in minor in-office procedures (e.g. laser, slit lamp procedures)
* Calibrate, clean, maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
* Room patients, ensure exam rooms are stocked and clean
* Educate patients on use of medications, pre- and post-op instructions
* Document all findings and procedures accurately in electronic medical record (EMR)
* Assist scheduling, inventory management, ordering ophthalmic supplies
* Be a Team Player
*Required Qualifications*
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Prior experience in ophthalmic or optometry setting preferred
* Basic knowledge of ophthalmic instruments and diagnostic testing
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
* Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to changing workflows
*Preferred / Advanced Qualifications*
* Certification from *JCAHPO* (e.g. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)) Wikipedia+1
* 2+ years of experience in ophthalmology or eye care
* Experience in subspecialties (e.g. retina, glaucoma, cornea)
* Experience assisting with in-office procedures or laser treatments
* Leadership skills, ability to train other technicians
* Continuing education or specialty certifications
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
