We seek a candidate who can handle a fast-paced and high-volume environment. This person must be organized, an effective communicator, and able to juggle several tasks.
As our Legal Secretary, you can expect your work to be fruitful and fulfilling. While the atmosphere of Public Advocate consistently changes, you can expect to be both challenged and supported. You'll provide clerical services such as proofreading, coordinating attorney schedules, handling case files, and preparing legal documents for the attorneys of Public Advocate. **About The Office of the Public Advocate**The Office of the Public Advocate seeks professionals, both attorneys, and legal staff members, to join our legal defense team!

This defined retirement benefit requires a 12% monthly contribution rate and includes a 100% employer match on Day 1* Learn more at**We Require*** Two years of experience in legal preparations and proceedings within a legal setting* High school diploma**We Also Value*** Experience preparing legal proceedings and preparations in Juvenile Delinquency, Juvenile Dependency, Mental Health, Delinquency/Dependency/Mental Health Appeals* Intermediate Bilingual Skills (Spanish/English)**Job Contributions*** Type and prepare legal documents, briefs, petitions, and memoranda from written copy, oral, and/or mechanical dictation for filing in a fast-paced environment* Review documents for completeness, and typographical and formatting errors* Transcribe witness interviews from cassette tapes, CDs, and/or digital recordings* Access information electronically from the Court and update internal case tracking systems; use internal case tracking systems and intra/internet to answer inquiries for attorneys, staff and clients* Create, maintain and update case management records accurately and in a timely manner* Answer multi-line telephone, screen and transfer calls, take messages, and direct visitors* Coordinate case files and calendars; file documents in hard files; prepare court calendars; schedule meetings, interviews, and legal calls for attorneys* Photocopy documents, correspondence, notebooks, books, motions, briefs, files, and other confidential material* Support attorneys who represent persons who have been charged with, and/or been convicted of crimes, some of which may include traumatic subject matter**Working Conditions*** Mostly office setting in high volume, fast-paced environment with frequent stressful situations* Requires long periods of sitting while completing computer activities* Ability to lift boxes, floor to waist, up to 25 pounds and carry, push, or pull a distance of 15 feet**Selection Procedure*** Only the most qualified candidates will be considered* Consideration will only be given to candidates who submit online applications* Candidates will be contacted primarily through email and their Workday online application profile* Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitiveMaricopa County is an equal opportunity employer.**Apply Now!**in 2024.
