The Business Essentials unit empowers students to ignite their potential by building a strong foundation of practical skills that lead to success at VCU, in business and throughout life. Business Essentials faculty teach courses that help all business undergraduates develop core business and professional skills that are critical to their success as business students and professionals. These courses are part of the shared undergraduate business curriculum.
Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching:
The core responsibility is teaching undergraduate sections of BUSN 325: Business Communications. This course equips students with strategic communication skills for diverse formats, audiences, and contexts, covering topics such as business writing, data storytelling, visual/nonverbal communication, pitching ideas, and professional presentations.
Curriculum Content & Delivery:
The incumbent will participate in curriculum assessment and development for the Business Communication course, continuously assessing and improving course content and delivery methods to ensure students meet course objectives.
Service and Student Development:
The instructor will focus on developing student's abilities to inform, persuade, and inspire through communication, emphasizing clarity, tone, audience analysis, and ethical practices. The instructor will participate in other service commitments as necessary.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Education:
Master’s Degree in Business, Communications, or a relevant field.
Experience
Business experience with a broad knowledge of business practices.
Experience teaching undergraduate business classes, especially in the area of communication.
Demonstrated teaching excellence.
Experience using experiential and online instructional methods.
Superior communication and leadership skills.
A proven track record of inspiring, guiding, and mentoring others to reach their full potential.
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching large courses (e.g., 50-100 students).
Demonstrated commitment to student success initiatives both inside and outside the classroom.
Experience in a professional role focused on communication, business writing, or data storytelling.
Salary Range: $75,000-90,000
