About Matchbook Learning Matchbook Learning is a non-profit charter management organization based in Indianapolis, Indiana. We operate two schools: Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63, serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and The Match High School and Career Center, which currently serves 9th grade and 10th students and will expand to include 11th grade students in the fall of 2026.

Substitute Teacher

for our

College & Career Readiness Class (K–8)

to join the team at

Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63 . This is a

full-time, temporary contracted position

with a pay rate of

$25.00 per hour .

Position Overview Wendell Phillips School 63 is seeking a Permanent Substitute Teacher for College & Career Readiness to support students in grades K–8. This position provides consistent daily coverage for our College & Career Readiness course, ensuring continuity, strong classroom culture, and meaningful student engagement.

This is a low-prep, high-impact role—all lesson plans and instructional materials are provided. The ideal candidate is organized, punctual, firm and fair, open-minded, and receptive to coaching and support in order to grow and be successful in the role.

This position will conclude in June 2026 and is ideal for candidates seeking stable school-year employment, future teaching experience, or meaningful work with students.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver provided College & Career Readiness lesson plans to K–8 students

Facilitate discussions and activities related to careers, habits of success, leadership, and post‑secondary awareness

Maintain a positive, structured, and engaging classroom environment aligned to our restorative practices

Build strong relationships with students to support attendance, motivation, and school culture

Demonstrate strong classroom management that is firm, fair, and consistent

Communicate regularly with school leadership regarding student progress and needs

Support daily transitions, attendance procedures, and classroom routines

Requirements

High school diploma required (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)

Experience working with children in school, youth, or community settings preferred

Organized, punctual, reliable, and professional

Open-minded and receptive to feedback, coaching, and support

Strong communication and relationship‑building skills

Committed to working through the end of the school year

Passion for student development, mentorship, and college & career readiness

Preferred Qualifications

English/Spanish bilingual
