Position Summary The Water Truck Driver plays a critical role in supporting concrete grinding operations by ensuring grinding equipment remains consistently supplied with water. This position involves operating a water truck, filling from approved water sources, supplying grinders on active job sites, and assisting slurry tank operations as needed. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a travel-heavy, outdoor construction environment.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions Operational Support
Safely operate a water truck to supply grinding equipment with water throughout the workday. Including driving in and out of traffic closures on highways/interstates.
Fill the water truck from approved water sources, including fire hydrants or designated fill locations.
Successfully operate boom to fill grinder water tanks efficiently and safely.
Follow slurry tankers to designated pits and assist with slurry tanker washouts by connecting hoses as needed.
Jobsite Assistance
Assist with traffic control tasks, including moving traffic barrels when required.
Support other crew members with general labor duties to keep the job site running efficiently, including assisting on yard days.
Equipment & Safety
Conduct routine inspections and assist with basic mechanical troubleshooting and minor repairs.
Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and equipment operators.
Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and project-specific requirements.
Qualifications & Skills Required
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement
Ability to safely operate water trucks and related equipment
Ability to maintain DOT compliance, including E-Logs
Willingness to travel extensively and work long hours as project demands require
Strong safety awareness and sound decision-making skills
Preferred
Prior experience working around concrete grinding equipment or heavy highway construction
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform minor equipment repairs
Experience booms or similar equipment
Prior experience working in highway, heavy civil, or construction environments
Physical Requirements (Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions).
Physical expectations of this role include:
Frequent standing and walking on concrete and uneven surfaces for extended periods
Use of hands/arms to operate machinery and tools.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more as needed for equipment handling.
Ability to climb, crawl, or work on/around machinery as essential to inspections and repairs.
Visual abilities including distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Ability to remain with equipment for extended periods and work long shifts.
All physical requirements are directly related to essential job tasks performed in active construction environments.
Working Conditions
Outdoor work in all weather conditions, temperature extremes, and varying jobsite environments.
Noise levels requiring proper PPE.
Extensive travel—often weeks to months at a time.
Ability to work during the day, night, or rotating shifts depending on project needs.
Primary shop location: Big Lake, MN; additional shop location: Huxley, IA
