About the Role Geeks on Site is hiring experienced
CAKE POS Field Technicians
across the United States for on-call installation and troubleshooting work in restaurants and retail environments. This role involves
POS installations, networking support, low-voltage cabling, and occasional site surveys
to assess readiness for upcoming deployments.
This is a
1099 position — ideal for techs who want flexible scheduling and paid hourly fieldwork.
Compensation $35 per hour
Paid hourly for time on site
Weekly contractor payments
Responsibilities CAKE POS Installation & Support
Install, configure, and test CAKE POS terminals and peripherals (printers, pin pads, cash drawers, kitchen printers, scanners, etc.)
Verify firmware/software and activate POS components as instructed
Train staff on basic CAKE system usage if requested
Troubleshoot POS hardware and software issues during service calls
Networking & Low-Voltage Cabling
Run, terminate, and test
Cat5e/Cat6 cabling
Install wall plates, patch panels, conduits, and cable pathways
Mount and configure network switches, routers, and wireless access points
Identify and resolve LAN/WAN/WiFi connectivity problems
Document IP assignments and equipment layout when required
Site Surveys (When Scheduled)
Evaluate cabling, power, and network readiness prior to installation
Provide photos, notes, and risk assessments through a digital report
Requirements
2+ years of experience
in POS field service, IT support, or networking
Experience with CAKE POS preferred
Strong skills with:
DHCP / Static IP setup
TCP/IP networking
LAN/WAN/WiFi troubleshooting
Able to read installation diagrams
Comfortable working independently in active restaurant/retail environments
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical installation tasks
Essential Tools Required (Technician Must Bring)
Impact drill + drill bits
Phillips & flat-head screwdrivers
Wire stripper / punch-down tool
RJ45 crimping tool + connectors
Cable tester
(basic OK)
Assorted short Ethernet patch cables (for testing)
Label maker
or
printed cable labels
Zip ties / Velcro straps
Laptop with Ethernet port
(or USB-to-Ethernet adapter)
Smartphone (photos + communication + instructions) and use of Zoho FSM and Shifts
Techs with additional tools (ladder, toning tool, portable hotspot) receive priority on more complex deployments — not required.
