Volunteering Opportunities – Kitchen Duties
We are looking for reliable and hard working volunteers for general (kitchen) duties. Volunteers will assist kitchen staff to provide hospitality and catering services for patients, staff, volunteers and visitors, as well as keep the kitchen in a hygienic and serviceable condition.
General responsibilities and duties
Assist with washing up (dishwasher filling/emptying).
Assist with restocking tasks and stock takes.
Assist with the preparation/cooking of home cooked food.
Provide refreshment service to Reception Volunteers.
Prepare patient’s drinks trolley.
Prepare patient meal trays ahead of service.
Prepare dining room for staff/volunteer lunch service.
Clean the dining room following lunch service/function (wipe down tables/chairs etc).
Prepare and clear down refreshments for any hospice meetings/functions.
Undertake general cleaning duties within the kitchen to maintain a hygienic and serviceable condition.
Optional responsibilities and duties on the Inpatient Unit
Ensure patient water jugs, glasses/feeder cups are kept replenished and clean.
Take food orders from patients.
Serve meals to patients and their loved ones.
Provide a drinks and afternoon tea trolley service to patients and their loved ones.
Ensure patient meal trays and service trolleys are removed from the Inpatient Unit following service.
Desired skills and experience Training required before starting:
Food Safety Booklet – mandatory, 2 times yearly
Manual Handling – mandatory, 2 times yearly
Slips, Trips & Falls – mandatory, 2 times yearly
Fire Awareness – mandatory, 2 times yearly

Hours:
Flexible – the following shift times are only a guide. Morning shift: 9:00 – 13:00. Afternoon shift: 13:00 – 17:00. Evening shift: 16:45 – 20:00.
