Position
Title: Counselor
Reports to: Camp Director
Program: Summer Day Camp
Location: Hopewell Valley YMCA, Pennington, NJ
Assuming: Seasonal, Non‑Exempt, Minimum age 16 years.
Responsibilities
Assist the Head Counselor with the supervision of children assigned to a group, maintaining a 1:6 ratio.
Provide a safe and fun environment through active listening, energetic participation, and hands‑on activities.
Organize and lead sports, games, small and large group activities, and arts and crafts.
Assist Camp Directors and Head Counselors in overall program development.
Support camp staff in planning, supervising, and leading activities.
Maintain positive relationships with campers, parents, and other staff.
Serve as a role model for campers and staff.
Assist campers in activities.
Interpret and supervise safety and health regulations.
Submit reports to Camp Directors as required.
Encourage respect for personal property and camp equipment.
Take attendance of campers.
Report, assist, and record accidents and illnesses of campers and other staff.
Qualifications
Minimum age 16 years old at time of employment.
Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certificates by the start of camp.
Must complete mandatory 24‑hour training prior to the start of camp.
Leadership ability and teamwork oriented.
Ability to follow and implement the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility.
Must be able to commute to Pennington, NJ.
Benefits & Compensation Pay rate: $15.49 – $18.00 per hour.
Full‑time or part‑time seasonal position.
