Position Overview Assistant Professor (tenure‑track, 9 months)

in Computer Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, North Carolina A&T State University. Candidates at the Associate Professor level may also be considered. The primary purpose of the position is to conduct research and teach in next‑generation networked, cyber‑physical, and intelligent systems.

We seek candidates whose research contributes to advanced computing architectures and provides new paradigms in edge computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), cloud‑based computing, and related areas that support secure, connected, data‑driven applications. Specific research and teaching areas include, but are not limited to:

Custom hardware architectures, including AI/ML accelerators, and domain‑specific computing methods

Design and/or optimization for edge, fog, cloud, and distributed computing systems, including ML optimization

Design and/or optimization for emerging and/or existing computing paradigms, including neuromorphic computing and quantum computing System architectures for IoT, cyber‑physical systems, and connected systems

Hardware and systems design for autonomous, medical, and/or real‑time applications

Prototyping of custom architectures via FPGA or ASIC implementation

Secure, trusted, reliable, and/or resilient computing systems

Responsibilities

Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program

Publish high‑quality scholarly work, evidenced in part by citation indices

Collaborate enthusiastically with NC A&T faculty in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer engineering

Recruit, advise, and mentor students

Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation activities

Provide service to the ECE department, College of Engineering, and the university in numerous capacities, including new roles as needed

Qualifications

Earned doctorate in electrical or computer engineering (or related field) by anticipated date of appointment

Demonstrable evidence of preparedness to establish an independent research program

Commitment to and success in working in a diverse and multicultural community

Outstanding research record in the areas of interest above

Track record of writing proposals for externally funded research programs

Strong programming background with excellent written and oral communication skills

Commitment to excellence in teaching and research

Post‑doctoral experience and evidence of independent research potential
