Specialty Doctor Oral & Max Surgery

Applications are invited for a fixed term contract for Specialty Doctor to cover maternity leave until November 2026. We have 2 part time posts available.
Main duties of the job Under the supervision of senior clinicians, the post holder will be required to support provision of patient care including following duties:
Assist in the routine care of patients, undertaking examination, diagnosis and treatment planning, both on the ward and in the out‑patient department.
Participate in ward rounds and then monitor the progress of in‑patients.
Undertake effective hand over of patients to colleagues.
Maintain appropriate patient records both written and electronic ensuring all written records are legible and dated.
Assist or perform in‑patient operative procedures within scope of practice.
Perform minor oral surgical procedures in the out‑patient setting, including procedures under IV sedation.
Prescribe and administer treatment in line with departmental guidelines and competence.
Examination and diagnosis of patients in outpatient clinics including cancer and new patients.
Review patients on consultant clinics.

DBS Checks and Costs

Job responsibilities A suitably experienced post‑holder will be expected to provide an appropriate clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.
The post‑holder will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi‑disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi‑disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care. It is anticipated work will be undertaken on three sites and closer to the patients' home. The Trust is seeking to extend services to GP surgeries / health centres etc and job plans may be revised in due course.
The post‑holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
The post‑holder will attend cross‑county and cross‑site meetings.
To collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high quality, timely service and to work towards meeting the Trusts and departmental objectives.
Person Specification Research Experience
Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
An awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiative.
Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last 5 years.
Evidence of having undertaken original research.
Management and Administrative Experience
Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities.
Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit.
Ability to use evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making.
Experience
At least four years full‑time or equivalent postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in the relevant specialty training programme, or as a FTSTA. Or equivalent experience and competencies of this specialist training.
Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty.
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Fully trained in IV sedation.
Teaching Experience
Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
Other requirements
An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues.
Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when undertaking non‑resident on‑call duties.
Qualifications
Eligible for full GDC Registration with a Licence to practise at the time of appointment.
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Personal Attributes
Ability to work effectively as a team member.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.
