The Optical Talent Center at Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an Opto‑Mechanical Thermal Engineer to provide support with thermal analysis, thermal management design (passive and active), and thermal testing for optical payloads.
Responsibilities You will play a key role in design and development work on a variety of passive, active, and directed‑energy optical payloads, which present a diverse range of cooling and thermal management challenges. You will collaborate with senior engineers and contribute across the design team to advance spacecraft capabilities.
Basic Qualifications
Fundamental knowledge and understanding with one or all of the following: thermodynamics, heat transfer, material properties or fluid mechanics
Familiarity with space systems and the unique heat transfer and thermal engineering challenges they entail
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; US citizenship is required
Desired Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field
Experience using the following or similar software packages: Thermal Desktop, Matlab, CREO and Windchill
Experience with STOP (Structural Thermal Optical Performance) analysis
Experience with thermal testing & instrumentation including test procedure development, instrumentation definition, test direction, and post‑test model correlation
Experience with space remote sensing and/or missile defense optical payloads
Active Secret clearance

For states not referenced above, the salary range will reflect the candidate’s final work location.
