Job Summary
To ensure the safety and security of St. Mary's Health System's employees, patients, and visitors by maintaining a vigilant and protective environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide customer services to staff, patients, vendors, and visitors by assisting with questions, directions and other communications.
Offer friendly greetings and provide directions as needed and assist individuals with compassion and reassurance.
Issue ID badges and parking permits accurately.
Implement patient lifts and assist with wheelchair transportation discreetly and safely.
Conduct inside and outside patrols effectively.
Remain alert to suspicious activity and promptly follow up.
Monitor security cameras and access control systems.
Enforce ID badge, no smoking and other policies with tact and respect.
Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency codes as needed.
Assist in maintaining fire safety by reporting extinguisher inspections and hazardous conditions.
Secure areas and fire exit as needed and report dysfunctional lighting or hazards.
Maintain knowledge of meetings and activities for quick visitor response.
Handle lost and found items efficiently.
Maintain thorough records, write incident reports, and file documents promptly.
Assist in training new security officers.
Cultivate positive relationships with law enforcement agencies.
Stay updated on security protocols and procedures.
Offer effective special services such as jump starts and lockouts.
Assist with cadaver removals and lifting tasks.
Uphold patient confidentiality and report violations.
Utilize CPI techniques for de-escalation when necessary.
Respond to incidents requiring police assistance and initiate appropriate measures.
Additional Duties
Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
Any other essential duties and responsibilities will be added between “Supports the mission” and “Other duties” assigned with this role.
Job Knowledge and Skills
Excellent surveillance, observation skills, and attention to detail.
Good physical condition and offer an impeccable appearance while setting high professional standards.
Advanced Computer skills.
Knowledge of medical/security terminology is beneficial.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
The ability to speak, read, write, and understand written instructions in English is required.
Education and Experience
High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
Previous security experience preferred.
Successfully complete CPI training program and recertify every two years.
A valid driver’s license.
CPI De-escalation training.
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting/carrying frequently up to 50 pounds. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.
