Our client is seeking a
Supervisor
to oversee the daily operations of the Insurance Follow‑Up team within a physician billing environment. The Supervisor is responsible for managing staff performance, ensuring accurate and timely billing, maintaining compliance with HIPAA and New York State regulations, and driving efficient A/R follow‑up processes. This position requires strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of medical billing and coding, and hands‑on experience with Epic and third‑party payer workflows.
Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management
Recommend personnel actions as needed.
Prepare weekly schedules and ensure adequate coverage.
Serve as the primary liaison between management and staff.
Oversee daily unit operations and assign work to team members.
Provide on‑the‑job training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
Billing, A/R & Follow‑Up
Monitor A/R aging, productivity, and collection metrics.
Maintain accurate account balances and documentation.
Ensure accurate and timely submission of claims and adjustments.
Perform insurance follow‑up via phone calls and payer portals.
Oversee patient and third‑party accounts receivable, ensuring timely follow‑up.
Compliance & Quality Control
Implement and monitor quality control measures.
Maintain knowledge of New York State third‑party billing rules.
Assist with administrative system updates and workflow improvements.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable healthcare regulations.
Customer Service & Communication
Assist internal and external customers with billing inquiries.
Resolve patient complaints professionally and efficiently.
Communicate effectively with staff, physicians, and external organizations.
Reporting & Operational Support
Prepare and maintain A/R and productivity reports.
Analyze operational data and recommend process improvements.
Perform additional duties as assigned, including emergency‑related tasks.
Qualifications/Must Haves
Familiarity with credit and collection practices.
Knowledge of
New York State third‑party billing regulations.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Computer literacy and comfort with billing software and payer portals.
High School Diploma or GED required; college education preferred.
Strong understanding of
medical terminology, ICD‑9/ICD‑10, and CPT coding.
Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in healthcare billing, physician billing, or revenue cycle operations.
Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Proficiency in
Epic
billing applications.
Ability to interact with staff, patients, physicians, and external organizations with tact and professionalism.
One of the following is required:
Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician‑based (CCSP)
Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily indoors.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Requires talking, hearing, grasping, and visual acuity.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
