Universal Precautions Apply Purpose of Your Job Position As the Assistant Director of Nursing, your primary responsibility is to oversee day-to-day nursing activities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards. This pivotal role focuses on maintaining the highest quality of care, guided by the Director of Nursing Services.

Delegation of Authority As the Assistant Director of Nursing, you are granted the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability required to execute your assigned duties effectively.

Administrative Functions

Direct daily nursing activities in compliance with regulations.

Ensure adherence to the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.

Coordinate nursing services with other resident services.

Oversee nursing service personnel and their job descriptions.

Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting.

Participate in the facility's quality assurance program for the nursing service department.

Charting and Documentation

Complete accident/incident reports.

Chart all accidents/incidents involving residents.

Encourage physicians to review and sign orders, progress notes, etc.

Chart nurses' notes informatively and descriptively.

Complete and file required record-keeping forms/carts upon admission, transfer, and/or discharge.

Drug Administration Functions

Prepare and administer medications as ordered.

Verify resident identity before administering medication.

Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary.

Dispose of drugs and narcotics as required.

Review medication records for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to policies.

Personnel Functions

Inform the DON of staffing needs.

Develop work assignments and assist in completing tasks.

Make daily rounds to ensure nursing services personnel adhere to standards.

Report absentee call-ins to the DON.

Review and address complaints and grievances from assigned personnel.

Nursing Care Functions

Inform nursing personnel of new admissions and expected arrival times.

Make rounds with physicians as necessary.

Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, etc.

Participate in the orientation of new residents/family members.

Requisition and arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services.

Monitor seriously ill residents and notify physicians of changes in condition.

Staff Development

Assist in standardizing work methods.

Attend and participate in continuing educational programs.

Safety and Sanitation

Monitor personnel to ensure adherence to safety regulations.

Maintain work areas in a clean and sanitary manner.

Ensure resident care areas are clean, safe, and sanitary.

Participate in the facility's Infection Control Program.

Care Plan and Assessment Functions

Review care plans daily and update as residents' conditions change.

Ensure nurses' notes reflect that care plans are being followed.

Review resident care plans for appropriate goals, problems, approaches, and revisions.

Residents' Rights Functions

Maintain confidentiality of resident care information.

Monitor nursing care to ensure residents are treated fairly and with respect.

Ensure all nursing care is provided in privacy, and personnel knock before entering rooms.

Review and address resident complaints and grievances, maintaining a written record.
