Job Title: QMHP – Children’s Crisis Respite - Waxahachie

Position’s Role Summary:

North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA) is responsible for developing a collaborative system of care for children, adolescents and adults with severe mental illness and other serious emotional disturbances, as well as those experiencing a substance use disorder in Dallas, Rockwall, Hunt, Kaufman, Ellis, and Navarro.

Our Children’s Crisis Respite program is designed to be short-term and community-based for children who need direct supervision and care. The Program Manager will actively participate in staffing's to determine best treatment for recovery.

This position reports to the Chief of Regional Operations.

Responsibilities

Complete intake paperwork with each individual and orient them to the program.

Assist in clinical decision making regarding both admissions and discharges.

Create and document a person-centered crisis recovery plan based on the Adult Needs and Strengths Assessment for each individual.

Be an integral part of the treatment team for each individual who consults with all staff on coordinating services and contacting all existing treatment providers.

Work with peer providers on developing discharge plans for each individual that link them to post-discharge providers.

Facilitate groups on social behavior, peer interactions, stress tolerance, positive coping skills, medication management, substance use and relapse prevention, and symptom reduction.

Provide individual crisis intervention services.

Assist individuals with developing and staying connected to a positive support system.

Be responsible for coordinating group activities for house members.

Reassess individuals’ needs on a daily basis including evaluating mental status and assessing for suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and audio/visual hallucinations.

Coordinate a warm hand off from other agencies and Homeward Bound departments to the crisis respite house.

Facilitate house meetings for both staff and house members.

Be comfortable dealing with individuals who have experienced significant amounts of trauma.

Provide therapeutic intervention in potential crisis situations and assist the team in ensuring the appropriate level of care and coordination of services is provided.

Facilitate self-administration of medication with all individuals.

Assist house staff with driving, cleaning, cooking, and yardwork as needed.

Attends and participates in staff meetings.

Must be able to work on and have knowledge of a PC (personal computer).

Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., with an ability to become familiar with company-specific programs and software.

Duties and projects may be assigned or changed to meet business needs.

Qualifications

Meets TAC criteria for a QMHP (Qualified Mental Health Professional). This includes graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in sociology, social work, psychology, or other TAC-approved major.

One or more years of experience as a QMHP with direct care of persons with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Prefer experience in psychiatric crisis service settings.
