We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead multidisciplinary teams on healthcare and complex building projects, including work for federal agencies.
This role is ideal for a project manager who understands the rigor of public-sector delivery, thrives in highly coordinated environments, and values collaboration, technical excellence, and client service. Experience supporting federal clients, particularly the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, is highly valued but not required.
POSITION OVERVIEW The Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering projects across all phases of design and construction, with a strong emphasis on federal and institutional work. Working closely with Senior Leadership and discipline leads, this role manages scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client communication to ensure projects comply with applicable federal standards, agency requirements, and AE Works’ quality expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead multidisciplinary project teams through all phases of project delivery, from planning and design through construction administration and closeout
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction
Manage project scope, schedules, staffing plans, and fee budgets, with attention to federal contracting and documentation requirements
Monitor project financial performance, including labor utilization, consultant coordination, invoicing, and change management
Coordinate and oversee preparation, review, and quality control of construction documents in accordance with applicable federal standards and agency guidelines
Lead consultant coordination across architectural, engineering, and specialty disciplines
Support contract negotiations, consultant agreements, and client amendments in collaboration with firm leadership
Oversee construction administration activities including submittal review, RFIs, site visits, and issue resolution
Prepare meeting agendas, meeting minutes, progress reports, and other required project documentation
Mentor and guide junior staff, fostering professional growth and technical development
Support marketing and business development efforts, including proposal development and participation in client interviews
QUALIFICATIONS: What's Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management
Minimum of 8–10+ years of professional experience in architectural or building project management
Experience delivering institutional, healthcare, or complex building projects, including public-sector or federal work
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently across varying phases and levels of complexity
Strong understanding of the design and construction process, including permitting, construction administration, and agency coordination
Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, and consultant teams
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Proficiency with industry-standard software, including Revit and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
What Puts You Ahead:
Experience supporting federal clients, including projects subject to federal design standards and review processes
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) project experience is a plus, but not required
Familiarity with federal design and construction guidelines (e.g., agency standards, review milestones, and documentation requirements)
Professional licensure (Architect, Engineer, or related discipline)
LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable design initiatives is a plus, but not required
Experience with project management and scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project or similar platforms)
Experience mentoring staff and contributing to firm-wide initiatives
