Senior Systems Engineer Direct Manager: Director of Engineering

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer to lead requirements definition, system architecture, and technical execution across our spacecraft platforms. In this role, you will manage system and subsystem requirements, lead trade studies and design reviews, and act as a key technical interface across internal teams, customers, and partners. You will have the opportunity to influence the design of next-generation spacecraft while ensuring technical excellence from concept through delivery.

This role requires strong systems engineering expertise, experience with spacecraft subsystems (including propulsion), and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment balancing technical rigor with rapid execution. This role requires candidate to be on‑site at our Hawthorne, CA, location.

Where You’ll Make an Impact

Own and manage system and subsystemотно requirements from concept through flight delivery.

Lead trade studies, system architecture development, and mission applications for spacecraft and propulsion systems.

Perform system‑level design, analysis, and verification activities across mechanical, electrical, fluids, and software subsystems.

Lead and participate in internal and external design reviews, ensuring requirements and design maturity.

Act as a technical interface with internal stakeholders (engineering, operations, program management) and external partners (customers, subcontractors).

Implement and maintain rigorous verification and validation processes for both hardware and software.

Support spacecraft assembly, integration, and test activities, including environmental and functional testing.

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements that enhance execution speed and reliability.

What It Takes

B.S. in Engineering, Physics, or related field (M.S. preferred).

5+ years of direct experience in spacecraft systems engineering, propulsion, or related subsystems.

Strong background in system and subsystem requirements development and management.

Proficiency with requirements management tools (e.g., Jama, JIRA, Flow bestowed).

Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks or Creo) and analysis tools (ANSYS or equivalent).

Knowledge of spacecraft sod subsystems standards and interfaces.

Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Nice-to-Have Experience

7+ years in spacecraft or propulsion system design, development, and testing.

Experience working with NASA and or DoD programs.

Familiarity with plasma physics concepts or electric propulsion.

Analytical/scientific programming skills (Python, Matlab, Excel).
