26-27 Director of Athletics & Extracurriculars Carmen Schools of Science & Technology (Carmen) is a public charter school network in Milwaukee, WI with a mission to graduate all students as critical thinkers and self-directed learners prepared for success in college, meaningful careers, community involvement, and family life. The Carmen Schools network includes five schools with 1,900 students in grades 6th–12th.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Athletics & Extracurriculars leads all athletic and extracurricular programming in a founding role at Carmen’s Southgate campus, serving approximately 1,100 students. This role oversees coach recruitment and supervision, athletics logistics, after-school clubs, and evening/summer building use. QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, or related field.

Experience in athletic administration, coaching, or school-based leadership.

Strong relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to work evenings, weekends, and summer hours.

Preferred

Experience in an urban, high performing school environment.

Knowledge of WIAA rules and athletic compliance systems.

Bilingual proficiency (Spanish) strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES

Recruit, hire, and develop high-quality coaches and club advisors who embody Carmen’s core values.

Hold staff accountable through clear expectations, ongoing feedback, and growth-oriented coaching.

Collaborate with school leadership team to ensure alignment between school and afterschool programming.

Foster inclusive, student-centered athletic and activity programs that build belonging, character and school pride.

Collaborate with Carmen South Middle School and external youth organizations to develop our student-athlete pipeline through coordinated athletic programming and early engagement.

Manage scheduling, transportation, officials, equipment, and all event logistics.

Manage student-athlete eligibility across all required platforms, maintaining accurate rosters and a centralized tracker to ensure full WIAA and district compliance.

Oversee after-school club programming to ensure strong participation and consistent supervision.

Ensure compliance with WIAA, district policies, eligibility requirements, and safety standards.

Budget, Compliance & Safety

Develop and manage athletic and activities budgets responsibly.

Oversee procurement and maintenance of coaching gear, team uniforms, equipment, and supplies.

Implement and monitor safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk‑management practices.

Coordinate and supervise after‑school, evening, and summer use of athletic facilities and shared spaces.

Manage practice, game, rental, and program schedules collaboratively with school operations.

Ensure the building is properly staffed, secure, and prepared for all athletic and community use.

Family, Community & Conference Engagement

Serve as liaison to families, athletic conferences, officials, and community organizations.

Communicate schedules, expectations, and accomplishments clearly and consistently.

Build partnerships with local organizations to expand athletic and enrichment opportunities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position will work predominantly Monday – Friday at our Southgate campus with some travel.
