YOUR TASKS Junior Postdoctoral Position in Nanoparticle-Based Photosensitizer Design for Ophthalmic Applications The
Laboratory of General Biopharmaceutics and Physical Pharmacy (LGBPP)
at
Ghent University
is seeking a
junior postdoctoral researcher
to work on the
design, formulation, and characterization of nanoparticle-encapsulated photosensitizers
for ophthalmic applications.
The successful candidate will contribute to a cutting-edge research project focused on the development of nanoparticle-based delivery systems for photosensitizers
to improve their stability, ocular bioavailability, and phototherapeutic efficiency . The project will involve the rational design of nanocarriers (e.g. polymeric nanoparticles, lipid-based systems) and their evaluation in relevant ophthalmic models, with potential applications in light-activated ocular therapies.
This work builds on recent photosensitizer platforms developed within our laboratory
and integrates pharmaceutical formulation, nanotechnology, and photonics.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who:
Holds a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, nanomedicine, chemical engineering, biomedical sciences, or a related field
Has a strong background in nanoparticle formulation and drug delivery systems
Has experience with encapsulation of small molecules or photosensitizers in nanocarriers
Has knowledge of physicochemical characterization techniques
(e.g. particle size, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency, release kinetics)
Has interest or experience in light-activated therapies
(e.g. photodynamic or photothermal approaches)
Demonstrates strong experimental skills and scientific rigor
Is able to work independently and collaborate within a multidisciplinary research team
Has good written and spoken English skills
Experience with ocular drug delivery, ocular models, or ex vivo retinal tissue is considered an asset.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period from 01/02/2026 to 31/01/2027.
Your contract will start on 01/02/2026 at the earliest.
