Job Summary
The Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) serves as the primary point of contact for patients, delivering high-quality phlebotomy and specimen collection services in a safe, professional, and patient-centered manner. This role is responsible for collecting, processing, and preparing clinical and forensic specimens for laboratory testing while following established protocols, quality standards, and confidentiality requirements. The PSR I creates a welcoming environment, explains procedures clearly, and ensures accuracy, compliance, and process excellence in all interactions.
Key Responsibilities
Perform daily assigned duties accurately, efficiently, and on schedule under the direction of the area supervisor.
Collect blood specimens using venipuncture and capillary techniques, including pediatric and geriatric patients.
Perform both clinical and forensic specimen collection and processing in accordance with established procedures.
Prepare, label, handle, and process specimens for laboratory testing while maintaining specimen integrity.
Maintain accurate records, documentation, and data entry in required systems.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, infection control policies, and confidentiality regulations (HIPAA).
Create a professional, respectful, and reassuring environment for patients.
Demonstrate leadership behaviors, organizational commitment, and a positive company image.
Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment at all times.
Required Skills and Competencies
Ability to deliver high-quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric draws.
Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
Proficient in keyboarding and data entry.
Flexible availability to meet staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts.
Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent (REQUIRED).
Medical training (medical assistant or paramedic) preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred and required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Experience Requirements
Minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience (REQUIRED).
One or more years of phlebotomy experience preferred.
Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred.
Prior experience with data entry and electronic systems required.
